Description

Participating in the Coastal Cleanup tends to jumpstart me. Gets me pumped up to keep going, keep cleaning, keep being a steward for the environment.” Coastal Cleanup Volunteer

Coastwalk has been chosen by the California Coastal Commission as Coastal Cleanup Day Coordinator for  Sonoma County’s coast and inland waterways.  Join us in our effort to steward the Sonoma Coast and sign-up to volunteer to help remove marine debris from our beaches and tributaries on September 21st from 9 am. to 12 noon.  This cleanup, the state’s largest volunteer event is about Californians who value and want to help preserve our natural resources.

On this one day each year, Californians across every age, race, gender, and geographic location perform an incredible service by cleaning the places where we live, work, and play after a long summer of recreation. Last year coordinators and captains at more than 1,000 sites welcomed 63,500 volunteers who effective removal of 800,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California’s coast and inland waterways – without you this event could not exist. The awareness and accountability fostered at the cleanup helps reduce and prevent pollution everywhere. Litter travels from streets to storm drains, from creeks to rivers, and eventually reaches the sea. California Coastal Cleanup Day is there at every stop along that route to pick it up and make sure that no harm comes to wildlife from the trash that we create.

If possible, please bring your own bucket or container. The first 25 people to arrive at each beach location will receive a reusable/washable drawstring backpack for carrying debris. Please bring a reusable water bottle and sturdy protective gloves! Dress for coastal weather-wear layers, closed toe shoes, & sun protection.

Large groups (8 or more) must contact the Coastwalk office at 707-829-6689 or email Connie White at connie@coastwalk.org for registration instructions.
